Robert Kaplan, PhD

ROBERT KAPLAN, PhD, is a Senior Scholar and faculty member at the Stanford Clinical Excellence Research Center (CERC) in addition to an appointment at SPRC (by curtesy).  He previously served as Chief Science Officer at the US Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ) and as NIH Associate Director for Behavioral and Social Sciences. An author or co-author of nearly 600 peer reviewed publications, Kaplan recently took on a new role as an opinion editorialist and has contributed more than 50 pieces to a range of popular media since 2020.  He was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2005.
