- Center faculty and academic staff teach courses at the University and the Medical School about chronic disease prevention, health promotion, and research methods.
- Faculty and academic staff serve as research mentors for Stanford medical students on original research projects as part of their scholarly concentration requirement. The Center actively participates in both foundation areas (e.g., Community Health, Clinical Research, Health Services and Policy Research) and application areas (e.g., Cardiovascular Pulmonary, Women’s Health). Faculty and academic staff also serve as research mentors for Stanford undergraduates on original research projects. These mechanisms include directed research and readings (e.g., Human Biology 193 Research inHuman Biology; Medicine 199 Undergraduate Research) and other internship or research opportunities through the students’ department major (e.g., internships, the Summer HBREX program, or conducting an honors thesis).
- The SPRC anchors the Prevention Research (PR) Application Area (Only available for currently enrolled M.D. Candidates. For more information see: med.stanford.edu/md/student-research/scholarly-concentrations.html). This application, as part of the Scholarly Concentration Program, features coursework, research, and practice with promoting health and preventing disease at the individual and community level.
- The SPRC hosts a Master of Science Program in Community Health and Prevention Research (CHPR), available to coterminal applicants, external applicants, and current Stanford graduate students seeking a dual degree.
- Training resources exist for SPRC trainees of all levels (undergraduate through postdoctoral fellows). They support common training goals and objectives (e.g., developing research protocols, study conduct, career planning and decision-making, funding research, dissemination of research results).
- The SPRC also sponsors an NIH-funded Fellowship for Postdoctoral Scholars.
- SPRC supports the Contemplation By Design Annual Summit and ongoing University wide CBD programs to service the community.
